Our values at Chicago House revolve around meeting our clients’ needs with respect and affirmation. We have carefully modeled our trauma-informed approach to care around the diverse needs and lived experiences of the individuals and families who utilize our services. This is why the philosophy of harm reduction aligns so well with the work we do.
Harm reduction seeks to treat individuals as experts in their own lived experiences without the shame or stigma that can be so often perpetuated by family and society. Avi Rudnick, the director of Scattered-Site housing at Chicago House, recently co-authored a wonderful article published by the Council on Accreditation on the philosophy of harm reduction and how we enact it in our work with clients.
