This morning, Chicago House CEO, Scott Ammarell, had the opportunity to meet with HUD Secretary Ben Carson. Congressman Mike Quigley hosted a meeting with the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and Chicago leaders of LGBTQ and AIDS organizations. In advancing Chicago House’s pivotal role in the Chicago landscape, Scott conveyed the importance of housing as an essential element of healthcare, and that expanded housing opportunities for people living with or vulnerable to HIV/AIDS will greatly increase our efforts to end the decades-long epidemic. This was discussed as part of a larger conversation of the ramifications of removing important guidance regarding the LGBTQ community from HUD’s website and the need for public housing vouchers for people with HIV. We are encouraged by the Secretary’s response and look forward to additional discussions with HUD.
