"I want to appreciate Chicago House Agency for this great Computing Lab for all Independent Living Program residents . . . I am still a baby in computing, but in the next days I am going to try to improve my skills . . . My goals are to better my education, to speak English much better and to reconnect with people in Cuba."
-"Arturo," an Independent Living Program client
The Independent Living Program provides housing to 24 single HIV+ adults who are living longer, healthier lives as a result of the newer medication regimens, but are nonetheless in need of affordable housing with supportive services available to meet intermittent needs.
Residents in the Independent Living Program live by themselves in our affordable studio apartments. At the same time, they are in a supportive environment that provides on-site psychological assessment, group counseling and case management and that encourages residents to develop supportive community ties.
At each Chicago House residence, an on-site case manager helps clients obtain entitlements and benefits; arrange for home services through the City of Chicago Office of Rehabilitation Services; receive job counseling and training; and, if necessary, obtain referral to mental health services or substance abuse support groups.
