Gaining Ground Scattered-Site Housing Program

Guiding People towards Wholeness & Independence

The mission of the Gaining Ground Program is to empower clients to attain social and economic self-sufficiency and independence. Through a monthly rental subsidy, employment counseling and services, intensive life skills education, and case management, the Gaining Ground Program will assist participants in gaining self-determination. Our clients will gain skills that will enable them to live and work independently in the community, as well as the ability to make informed choices to support them in achieving their personal goals.

The Gaining Ground Program provides scattered-site housing to low-income and unemployed individuals with HIV and AIDS who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Chicago House secures leases for apartments and provides sponsor-based housing. All Gaining Ground residents also participate in our employment services program, which provides job training and placement. With the combination of permanent supportive housing assistance and employment services, participants are able to improve their health, income and housing stability.
