Racial Justice and the Conviction of Derek Chauvin

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Nearly one year later, on April 20, 2021, a jury found Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Chicago House recognizes that Chauvin’s conviction, while an important step toward accountability, is not full justice; no sentencing can replace George Floyd’s life. This verdict serves as a strong step in the right direction for Black and Brown Americans but the fight for racial justice is far from over. As an organization, we reject systemic racism and we will fight for justice. We demand accountability, and we stand in solidarity with Black and Brown communities who face discrimination and marginalization each day.

Chicago House is committed to a more just society which centers Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) lives and voices.
