Reflections from My First 90 Days
As I reach my first 90 days as CEO of Chicago House, I find myself feeling incredibly grateful—for the warm welcome, the inspiring people I've met, and the opportunity to be part of an organization with such a meaningful mission.
What has made me feel most at home is our people. Every day, I see staff who lead with compassion, expertise, and a deep commitment to the communities we serve. Many are part of the LGBTQ+ community themselves, living with HIV, or have dedicated their careers to serving LGBTQ+ individuals and people living with HIV. That shared commitment creates an environment where clients feel seen, affirmed, and supported. It is one of Chicago House's greatest strengths.
Over the past three months, I've spent much of my time listening—to staff, clients, Board members, funders, and community partners. Those conversations have reinforced my belief that Chicago House has an extraordinary foundation. As we look ahead, my focus is on building on that foundation by strengthening our people, systems, and partnerships so we can continue meeting the evolving needs of our community.
What has impressed me most is that our work is about more than housing or healthcare. At a time when many marginalized communities—especially transgender people—are facing increasing hostility and exclusion, Chicago House continues to offer something deeply human: belonging. We are a place where people are recognized, embraced, and valued for who they are.
I've realized that this same sense of belonging extends to our staff as well. It is one of the reasons I feel so at home here. Together, we are building a community where clients, employees, volunteers, donors, and partners alike are welcomed with dignity and empowered to thrive.
Thank you for welcoming me into this remarkable community. I'm honored to be part of Chicago House's next chapter, and I look forward to building it together with all of you.
