Moment #14: 1999 – Chicago House expands permanent supportive housing and wraparound services

By the middle of the decade, advances in HIV treatment regimens had begun to significantly reduce the number of deaths attributable to HIV/AIDS each year. After caring for individuals in the end stages of HIV/AIDS for over a decade, Chicago House made the difficult decision to close our 24-hour care facility as community need shifted from hospice care to case management and support services for individuals living with HIV. Over its twelve years of existence, our hospice facility provided more than 418 individuals with a safe and dignified place to live out their final days.
