Moment #17: October 1, 2005 – Chicago House launches Employment Program

As HIV treatment options advanced, individuals living with HIV were better able to manage their illness and return to facets of life that, for many, had been unfeasible—including finding and keeping steady employment. With the support of US Senator Dick Durbin, the Employment Program at Chicago House came about to address the need and desire among individuals living with HIV to return to the workforce, providing career counseling, mentorship, and internship opportunities. Today, the Employment Program serves nearly 250 individuals through career counseling and navigation, TransWorks, and the Community Health Apprenticeship Program (CHAP).
