Moment #18: 2006 – Chicago House begins offering scattered-site housing

In 2006, thanks to a $1.2 million dollar HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS) grant, Chicago House was able to offer eighteen scattered-site housing units across the city of Chicago. Scattered-site residents were also connected to employment services as part of the grant. Chicago House’s Scattered-Site Housing Program empowers individuals to maintain stable, affordable housing, often in their community of origin, and connects residents to other Chicago House case management services. Today, the Scattered-Site Housing Program houses 350 individuals each year and more than 70% of residents live on Chicago’s South and West Sides.
